Georgia, South Carolina Junior Challenge Match Called Due to Weather
Teams settle for tie after 4-4 opening round

EATONTON, Ga. – Georgia and South Carolina were tied, 4-4, entering the second and final round of the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match, but weather had the upper hand, cancelling the action on Saturday. The 37th annual competition took place at Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee in Eatonton.

Matches were scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m., but lightning and thunderstorms in the area did not allow them to get started. After over two hours of delay, team officials elected to call the match, settling for the 4-4 tie.

It was just the second tie in the history of the event. The first one occurred in 2010 at Atlanta Country Club in Marietta.

Georgia holds onto to its series lead, now at 22-13-2. The Peach State was looking to break the tie and win its second straight following last year's 10-6 win.

This was the 37th playing of the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match, which brings together the top junior golfers in the two neighboring states. Teams are composed of the top eight finishers from each state's Junior Championship. Each of the eight matches each day are worth one point, with the two-day total determining the winning team.
