Notes:

Mitchell Krywulycz of Australia fired a 6-under-par 64 to earn medalist honors. Krywulycz graduated from Augusta State in 2011 and was part of two NCAA championship teams during his time there.

 

Current Georgia Tech golfer Anders Albertson of Woodstock, Ga., posted a 65 to finish second, while Kennesaw State senior Matt Nagy of Buena Vista, Ga., who qualified for the U.S. Open after emerging as a second alternate from this same site back in 2009, finished third with 66.

 

Five more players nabbed qualifying spots with 67s, including Kennesaw State junior Benjamin Greene of Duluth, Ga., Curt Sanders of Atlanta, amateur Richard Spangler of Hixson, Tenn., Richard Swift of Atlanta and Erik Flores of Grass Valley, Calif.

 

There was a six-man playoff among those at 68 to determine the final qualifying spot and two alternate positions.  Jay McLuen of Forsyth, Ga., posted birdie-par on two playoff holes to outlast amateur Michael Hebert of Atlanta, Ga.  Hebert was designated first alternate, while Bill Murchison III of Woodstock, Ga., claimed the second alternate spot on his second playoff hole.

 

Marietta Country Club played to 6,793 yards and a par 70. 

 

Today’s qualifier was the second of the two local qualifiers held in Georgia. The first took place May 8 at SummerGrove Golf Club in Newnan. Sectional qualifying will consist of 36 holes of stroke play conducted at 11 sites in the United States, including The River Club in Suwanee, Ga., on June 4. 

 

The 112th U.S. Open Championship will be held at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif., June 11-17.  Entries were open to any professional and to amateurs with USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 1.4.  The U.S. Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
