Notes:
Cory Sciupider of Etowah, N.C., earned medalist honors and a spot in the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship field at a qualifier at Mystery Valley Golf Club in Lithonia, Ga. Sciupider posted a 4-under-par 138 (69-69) on Monday and he will begin his collegiate golf career at Notre Dame next year. Joining Sciupider is Sepp Straka of Valdosta, Ga., and Seth Reeves of Duluth, Ga., who earned their automatic spots via a playoff. Straka and Reeves are collegiate rivals as Straka plays golf at the University of Georgia while Reeves tees it up at Georgia Tech.

The playoff was needed to determine the final two automatic qualifiers and first alternate as Reeves, Straka and Kyle Cobb of Tallahassee, Fla., who plays at Florida State University, finished tied at 3-under-par 139. After the first playoff hole (No. 16) the three were still tied, but before heading to the second playoff hole, play was called for the day due to darkness.

At 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, Reeves, Straka and Cobb resumed play and Straka birdied No. 17 to clinch the second automatic qualifying spot into the Championship. Both Reeves and Cobb birdied the next playoff hole, No. 18, to remain tied, so back to the 17th hole they went where Reeves birdied to secure the third automatic qualifying spot. Cobb finished as first alternate.

Taylor Smith of Covington, Ga., earned the second alternate position. Neither Smith nor Brandon Mai of Poway, Calif., who each tied at 2-under-par 140, were present at the time of the playoff, so the tie was decided by lot.

First-round play was suspended at 12:53 p.m. due to heavy rain, and after a one hour and 20 minute delay, play was resumed.

Mystery Valley Golf Club played to 6,677 yards and a par 71.
