At Rivermont Golf and Country Club, Mercedes Huarte of Duluth was the only Georgian to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. Huarte, a former Jacksonville State (Ala.) University golfer, was the medalist with a score of 1-over-par 73. She will be joined at the Championship by Debbie Adams of Asheville, N.C., who picked up the second and final qualifying spot with a 79.
Rivermont Golf and Country Club was set to 6,125 yards and a par of 72. A field of six players competed in the qualifying round.
Qualifiers advance to the 26th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, which will be held at Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas, October 6-11, 2012. Entries were open to female amateur golfers who have reached their 25th birthday by October 6, and who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 9.4. The U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
