Notes
Don Marsh of Johns Creek, Ga., earned medalist honors and an automatic spot into the USGA Senior Amateur Championship after posting a 1-under-par 71 at an 18-hole qualifier at Doublegate Country Club in Albany, Ga. Marsh is joined by Steve Golliher of Knoxville, Tenn., (even-par 72) and Bill Clanton of Leesburg, Ga., (1-over-par 73), who also automatically qualified into the Championship.

The first alternate position went to John Miller of Bloomington, Ind., after he posted a 1-over-par 73. Clanton and Miller were tied at 73 after the 18-hole round, so a playoff was needed to determine who would earn the final automatic spot and who would become first alternate. Fred Peel of Chipley, Fla., finished as second alternate at 2-over-par 74.

Doublegate Country Club was set to 6,702 yards and a par of 72. A field of 52 players competed in the qualifying round.

Qualifiers advance to the 58th USGA Senior Amateur Championship, which will be held at Mountain Ridge Country Club in West Caldwell, N.J., September 29-October 4, 2012, with a starting field of 156 players. Entries were open to amateurs who have reached their 55th birthday on or before September 29, and who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 7.4. The USGA Senior Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
