2001 Girls’ Championship

Defending Champion Jean Reynolds Wins Second Title at the Girls' Championship

NEWNAN, GA - Jean Reynolds of Newnan goes wire-to-wire to win her second Girls' title at the 2001 Girls' Championship, which is being held at SummerGrove Golf Club, June 18-20.

Jennifer Head of Midland was within 1-shot of Reynolds to start the day, but could do no better than a final round 77 to finish 3 back of Reynolds, who finished with a final round 75. Julie Bartholomew of Marietta and Grace Kim of Midland finished tied for third 8 back of second place finisher Head. Head finished second in the 2000 Girls' Championship.

Alicia Yanker of Atlanta won the Age 15-17 Flight with rounds of 99-93-93-285. Patricia Kim of Midland also finished at the top of the Age 12-14 Flight with rounds of 90-87-86-263, 2 better than Elizabeth Monahan of Albany.

Entrants with less than an 18.3 handicap are competing in the Championship Flight; all others are flighted by age. Competitors in the Championship Flight play the par-72 course from 5,726 yards, while the rest play from 5,128 yards. The format of this championship is 54 holes of stroke play over three days. The tournament was open to female amateur golfers between the ages of 12-17, who are Georgia residents and a member or dependent of a member of a GSGA member club.
