Reynolds Wins Going Away at Georgia Girls' Championship

ATLANTA, GA - In a performance reminiscent of Tiger Woods' domination at the US Open, Jean Reynolds of Newnan lapped the field by 14 shots with a three round total of 221 at the 21st Annual Georgia Girls' Championship held at the Capital City Country Club in Atlanta June 19-21, 2000. She was the only golfer to break par in a round, draining a 30-foot putt to card a one-under par 71 in the final round.

Reynolds' closest competitor was Jennifer Head of Midland who finished at 235. This was Reynolds' first Girls' title after coming close in previous years. She finished second last year to Diana Ramage of Fayetteville who did not attempt to defend her title this year. She was medalist at the 1999 USGA Junior Girls' Qualifying also held at Capital City CC. 1999 Girls' Player of the Year Leslie Stubblefield of Kennesaw finished in sixth place at 243.

The tournament was held at the Capital City CC, site of the first State Amateur Championship in 1916. 14-year old Bobby Jones won the title over close friend Perry Adair. He would, of course, go onto become the greatest amateur golfer of all time. He is still the youngest golfer to ever win the State Amateur.
