AUGUSTA, Ga. – Greyson Sigg of Augusta wins the Georgia Junior Championship at Augusta Country Club with a 3-under-par 207 (68-70-69) total score. The 16-year-old finished three strokes ahead of the runner-up, Justin Connelly of McDonough, who turned in an even-par 210 54-hole score.

With the win, Sigg joins Chase Parker (2008) and Michael Green (2004) as the three local players to win the Georgia Junior Championship the last three times the event has been held at an Augusta course. Sigg won on his home course this week.

"It's great," said Sigg on keeping the trophy in Augusta. "It's great to keep the tradition alive. There was a good amount of pressure. It was tough, but it was a lot of fun."

Over the three rounds at Augusta Country Club, Sigg carded nine birdies, four bogeys and one double-bogey. Three of those birdies and the double-bogey came in the final round, which turned out to be just good enough to secure the victory. This year was Sigg's second time playing in the Georgia Junior Championship, having finished tied for 19th a year ago at Green Island Country Club in Columbus.

"It was a great week," added Sigg. "It was a lot of fun playing here with all the support."

Joining the champion, Sigg, and the runner-up, Connelly, in the top 10 are: Michael Hines of Acworth (third; 2-over-par 212), Christopher Guglielmo of Cumming (fourth; 4-over-par 214), Evan Usry of Evans (fifth; 5-over-par 215), Seth Sanders of Macon (sixth; 7-over-par 217), Parker Derby of Columbus (T7; 8-over-par 218), Preston Heyward of Duluth (T7; 8-over-par 218), Emmanuel Kountakis of Martinez (T7; 8-over-par 218), Tyler Young of Kennesaw (T7; 8-over-par 218) and Aaron George of Dahlonega (T7; 8-over-par 218). The second round on Tuesday was delayed due to inclement weather in the area, and three players had to return to the course early Wednesday morning to finish before the final round started. Once the final round got underway, the temperature in Augusta started to rise and the heat stayed on the course throughout the final day for hot and muggy conditions.

The field of 144 was cut to the low 70 and ties for Wednesday's final round, with the cutline falling at 15-over-par 155 and 71 players advanced. Entries were open to male amateur golfers between the ages of 14-17 as of June 20, who are Georgia residents and GSGA members or dependants of GSGA members.

The top-8 finishers of the Georgia Junior Championship automatically qualify for the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match later this summer. Sigg, Connelly, Hines, Guglielmo, Usry, Sanders, Derby and Kountakis automatically qualify, and Heyward and Young are the first and second alternates, respectively. Derby and Kountakis automatically qualified via a playoff.
