Coble Wins Rain Soaked Final at the 4th Annual Women's Match Play

Carrollton, GA - Laura Coble of Augusta defeated Kathi Eutzler of Atlanta 2 and 1 clinching her 2nd title at the 4th Annual Georgia Women's Match Play Championship being held at Sunset Hills Country Club, April 11-13, 2001.

Eutzler had Coble 3 down at one point during the match until Eutzler three-putted on the 9th green to give one back to Coble. As the players teed off on the 10th the rain started, by the time the players reached the green the rain had soaked the greens so play was suspended for an hour and fifteen minutes. Coble would later say, "the rain delay really let me slow down and get my swing thought for the day back." When play was resumed Coble came out firing at the flags and due to her good play and some untimely errant tee shots by Eutzler, Coble fought back to win the match.

When asked how it feels to be the first two-time champion of this Championship Coble said, "I didn't realize that, it feels good to win again after winning in 1999 my expectations were high and I have really wanted to win this again." Coble will play in many more events this year including an Amateur Sponsor's exemption to the LPGA Asahi Ryokuken Augusta International Championship in September. Eutzler also plans on playing in as many events this year as she can including trying to qualify for U.S. Women's Open, U.S. Women's Amateur, and the GSGA Greater Atlanta Women's Amateur Championship.
