Ginette Spinucci of Stone Mountain Captures Senior Women's Championship

GREENSBORO, GA - Past Georgia Women's Amateur Champion Ginette Spinucci of Stone Mountain overcame a three-shot deficit to take the 2001 Georgia Senior Women's Championship, which was conducted by the GSGA at Port Armor Country Club August 29-30. Spinucci shot 87-81-168 to win by two strokes over last year's runner-up, Carol Bowman of Pine Mountain, who shot 89-81-170.

Despite a hole-in-one on the 119-yard seventh hole, first round leader Eleanor Kirkland dropped back to third place with a two-day score of 84-87-171. Kirkland's score was good enough, however, to win the Second Flight by six strokes. Winning the First Flight was Ellen Connors of Newnan, who finished tied for fourth overall at 172 with Susan Tucker of Atlanta. Connors made a strong comeback from an opening round 92, scoring the low round of the tournament with an 80.

Sandy Lassen of Greensboro took the Third Flight by two with a 97-91-188. Also from Greensboro, JoAnn Reynolds took the Fourth Flight with a 94-96-190. The Fifth Flight went to Brenda Escoe of Hull (101-96-197); the Sixth Flight was won by Nancy Huff of Atlanta (93-103-196); and the Seventh Flight went to Julie Allgood of Norcross (110-108-218). All players were flighted by handicap index and were eligible for the overall title.

This was the fourth playing of the Georgia Senior Women's Championship, which was established by GSGA in 1998. Entries were open to female amateur golfers who are at least 50 years of age, Georgia residents and members of a GSGA Member Club.
