Weaver Wins First Title at Senior Women's Championship

AUSTELL, GA - Unseasonably cold and blustery conditions were the story of the tournament as Rochelle Weaver of Resaca put together two consistent rounds of 82-85 for a 167 total to win the 3rd Annual Georgia State Golf Association Senior Women's Championship held at Dogwood Golf & Country Club in Austell September 6-7.

Weaver had started the second round tied with Eleanor Kirkland of Stockbridge and Betty Rich of Villa Rica. Weaver's 85 tied Third Flight winner Jane Dazey of Marietta, Second Flight winner Gay Connolly of Atlanta, and Fourth Flight winner Suzie Tindall of Atlanta as the low round of the day. Kirkland and Rich struggled and settled for second in their flights.

Carol Bowman of Pine Mountain, the Championship Flight winner and Patsy Ehret of McDonough finished second with 170 totals. Ehret won the inaugural Senior Women's Championship in 1998. Frances Miller of Waycross won the Fifth Flight.

This is Weaver's first tournament win and she felt the key to winning was minimizing her bad holes. She tied for low round of the day both days. Whereas many golfers in the field were hampered by large numbers on many of their holes, Weaver had just two double bogeys during her final round.

The format for the three-year old championship was 36 holes of stroke play format over two days. The field was divided into six flights. The tournament was open to female amateur golfers who are members of GSGA Member Clubs, are residents of Georgia, and are at least 50 years old.
