2001 Four-Ball Championship

Jeff Belk and Bob Young Fire a 68 to Win30th Annual Georgia Four-Ball Championship

Albany, GA - After a steady round of 4-under par 68 Jeff Belk of Marietta and Bob Young of Dunwoody came from one-shot behind to over take 54-hole leaders Erik Martin of Alpharetta and partner Michael Riley of Marietta to win the 30th Annual GSGA Four-Ball Championship held at Doublegate CC in Albany April 27-29.

Belk is no stranger to GSGA Championships, in 2000 Belk tied for 3rd at the GSGA Mid-Amateur Championship; he was also part of the Lanier GC team that won the Team Championship. Belk also qualified for the U.S. Mid-Amateur at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia. Young won this event in 1988 with then partner Bob McClearen at Sea Palms Resort, St. Simons Island.

36-hole leaders Martin and Riley fired rounds of 65-66 but in the final round could do no better than a 72 to finish tied for fourth place. Martin and Riley started the day 3-over par when they birdied the 12th hole and eagled the 13th holes they got themselves back to even and they stayed there the rest of the day. Robbie Dew of Marietta and partner Jay Childs of Kennesaw finished tied for 2nd two-shots back of the winners.
