Cartersville CC Vaults up the Leader Board to Claim Georgia Team Championship

 

STATHAM, Ga. --- Cartersville Country Club carded a 5-under par 211 in the final round to vault up the leader board and win its first Georgia Team Championship by four shots over St. Ives Country Club of Johns Creek. The 19th annual competition took place at The Georgia Club, October 29-30.

Carterville Country Club – whose team included Chase Jones and Jayce Stepp of Cartersville, Chris Hall of Kennesaw and Cres Dodd of Calhoun – were back in the middle of the pack, tied for 14th, after the opening round. In the final round they capitalized on a 69 from Hall, a 70 from Jones and 72 from Stepp to make their charge. Combined with their 1-under-par 143 in the opening round, Cartersville finished at 6-under 354 for the Championship.

St. Ives Country Club finished as runner-up in this event for the second-straight year, scoring a 2-under 358 total. Hamilton Mill Golf Club of Dacula finished third at 1-under, while The Club at River Forest of Forsyth and defending champion Rivermont Golf and Country Club of Johns Creek tied for fourth at even-par 360.
First-round leader Champions Retreat of Evans fell to 10th place overall, counting scores of 75, 77 and 80 in the final round and finishing at 6-over 366.

Cartersville's Hall was one of two players to shoot a field-low 69 on Sunday. He was matched by Scott Macdonald of Suwanee/Laurel Springs Golf Club, which tied for eighth with Atlanta's Cherokee Town and Country Club.

The final round was delayed 30 minutes in the morning due to frost. The shotgun start began at 10:00 a.m.

The Georgia Club's Red and Black nines were used for this year's competition, and played to 6,896 yards and a par 72.

Twenty-six teams of four men each representing GSGA Member Clubs competed over 36 holes for the title. The first round was 18 holes of four-ball stroke play, with the team's two scores combining for the team total. The final round was the best three of four 18-hole scores combining as the team score.
