Coble, Whidby Win Georgia Women's Team Championship

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA - Even though Laura Coble of Augusta has had fine season, she had not won this year unlike her Player of the Year performance of 1999. That all changed today though, as Coble and her partner Karen Whidby of Valdosta overtook first round leaders Charlotte Grant of Greensboro and Rebecca Rocker of Eatonton to win the 14th Annual Georgia Women's Team Championship held at Sea Palms Golf Resort in St. Simons Island October 24-25.

Coble and Whidby shot a second round six-under par 66 for a two day total of 136 to win by three over Rocker and Grant who shot two-under par 70 for a 139 total. Coble and Whidby shot 33 on the both the front and back with six birdies and no bogeys. The golfers were playing in a scramble format today and had played in a four-ball stroke play format yesterday. The event was divided into ten flights and marks the end of the 2000 GSGA women's tournament season.

This the third time Coble has won the Women's Team. This is also her third different partner. "I can't seem to keep a partner for some reason". Said Coble.  "Maybe I can get her to play with me next year." This is also the second time she has been part of a winning team this year. In August she was a member of the victorious Georgia team at the Georgia vs. Florida Women's Team Matches held in Orlando, FL.
