Taylor and Hale Capture Georgia Four-Ball Tournament By Two
Albany, Ga. – Craig Taylor and Dwayne Hale, both of Albany, fired a three-under 69 in the final round to capture the 19th annual Georgia Four-Ball Tournament, which took place at Stonebridge Golf and Country Club and River Pointe Golf Club, March 23-25. Taylor and Hale, members at River Pointe Golf Club, were the only pair in the field to shoot all three rounds in the sixties carding rounds of 69, 68 and 69 to finish with a tournament-total of 206 (-10). Fellow Albanians Bill Clanton and Scott Dismuke finished in a tie for second, two strokes off the pace, with Newnan's Brian Bossman and Peachtree City's David Nell.
Jack Benson of Dunwoody and Pete Malcolm of Duluth moved up one spot to finish alone in fourth position after their final-round 70. Four teams finished the tournament tied for fifth with total scores of 211. They were Augusta's Jefferson Murray, a former Georgia Mid-Amateur Champion, and his partner John Radford of Martinez, George Akins of Moultrie and Ricky Tucker of Tifton, Kelly Vaughn and Mike Bennett of Gainesville and Augusta's Mike O'Rourke and Rob Bissell of Evans. There was a three-way tie for ninth position at four-under between father-son duo Dick and Thomas Donegan of Kennesaw, Kennesaw's Alex Mackey and Marietta's Clay Shaw and Jason Myers and Rhett Smith, also of Kennesaw.
The championship through third flights were eligible for the overall honors. The field of 96 teams was divided into eight flights based on team handicap index. The field alternated between the two host clubs, with the top four flights playing their first and third rounds at Stonebridge Golf and Country Club.
Other flight winners were third – Don Paige of Lawrenceville and Ed Cordell of Norcross (214), fourth – Albany's Kyle Harrison and Phil Rouse (211), fifth – Blake Clanton and Jimmy Andrews of Albany (210), sixth – (tie) Bryan Stansell of Atlanta and Randy Gordy of Clarkesville and Lithonia's Jay Bowden and Jackson's Kenneth Norsworthy (224), and seventh – Roland Sorel of Dunwoody and Steve Mann of Duluth (228).
Entries were open to two-man teams of male amateur golfers who are members of a GSGA member club and residents of and whose combined handicap index is 4.0 or higher.
GSGA conducts 18 statewide competitions for men and women of all age groups, three interstate matches and 17 USGA qualifying events each year.
