2005 Four-Ball Tournament

Mark Corbitt and Rob Anderson Take Four-Ball Tournament

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Mark Corbitt and Rob Anderson, both of Valdosta, fired a seven-under 65 in the final round to capture the 17th Annual Georgia Four-Ball Tournament, which took place at Valdosta Country Club and Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta. Corbitt and Anderson, who are both members of Valdosta Country Club, shot the tournament-low 65 on their home course to give them a 205 for the tournament and better second flight winners Bob and Mike Nance of Calhoun by one stroke.

Three teams finished the tournament tied for third with total scores of 209. They were Alex Mackey of Kennesaw and Clay Shaw of Marietta, Albany's Craig Taylor and John Salter, and Dick and Thomas Donegan of Kennesaw. Valdosta's Larry Colson and Phil Alday, also members of Valdosta Country Club and top finishers in the Championship flight, finished in sixth position with a 211. Scott Dismuke and Shane Brinson of Albany, playing out of the second flight, finished in the seventh spot after rounds of 70-71-70. Tied for eighth place at 213 was Brian Bossman of Newnan and David Nell of Sharpsburg and Miles Hannan of Nashville and Rusty Parker of Valdosta. Acworth's Bob Cecil and Marietta's Sheldon Whittelsey finished in a tie for tenth place with Cumming's Scott Hootselle and Steve Polk.

The championship through third flights were eligible for the overall honors. The field of 96 teams was divided into eight flights based on team handicap index. The field alternated between the two host clubs, with the top four flights playing their first and third rounds at Valdosta County Club.

Other flight winners were third - Dick and Thomas Donegan of Kennesaw (209), fourth - (tie) Larry Fowler of Marietta and Wade Turner of Roberta and Valdosta's Jamie Harris and Mike Lansdell (215), fifth - Mabry Smith and Thompson Kurrie of Valdosta (217), sixth - Mackey Steele and Michael Green of McDonough (218) and seventh - Alan Crowell of Norcross and Gene Graves of Duluth (230).

Entries were open to two-man teams of male amateur golfers who are members of a GSGA member club and residents of Georgia and whose combined handicap index is 4.0 or higher.

GSGA conducts 18 statewide competitions for men and women of all age groups, three interstate matches and 17 USGA qualifying events each year. Other services include computerized handicapping, course rating and measuring, a summer-long junior sectional competitions program, Golf Georgia magazine and two college scholarship programs.
