East Section Captures GSGA Junior Sectional Challenge Matches

DUBLIN, GA - The East section won four of six age divisions and 30 points overall en route to capturing the 2000 GSGA Junior Sectional Challenge Matches held at Dublin Country Club in Dublin August 2-3.

East Section golfer Kris Shepherd of Evans captured the Boys Division with a one-over par 69-76 5 total while teammate Carrie Crawford of Hephzibah won the Girls Division with a 75-78 3 total. The low 36-hole score was turned in by Boys Division winner Mitch Baxley of Hortense from the Southeast Section who shot 77-67 4 from the shorter white tees.

Other East Section Division winners were Barrett Blackburn who shot an 18-hole total 79 to win the Division and Ryan Tyndall of Thomson who won the Boys Division in a playoff over Nick Difabio and Will Rogers after posting a 36-hole total 151.

The East's nearest competitors were the Southeast Section which finished 14 points behind with 16 points. Points were awarded for top five finishes in each division.  First place was worth six points, second was worth four, third was worth three, fourth was worth two, and fifth was worth one point. Each section had four boys competing and one girl. The teams were determined by top points earners during the summer-long Junior Sectional Program held in each section.
