Georgia Wins GA-SC Junior Challenge Match 

Peach State Wins Five Matches on Day Two


COLUMBIA, S.C. – Georgia wins the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match with a total of 11 ½ points to South Carolina's 4 ½. The 38th annual competition took place at Forest Lake Club in Columbia, S.C., July 26-27.


On day two, Georgia won its first three matches. Jake Fendt of Suwanee beat Zach McLain of Gilbert, 4 and 3; Tyler Joiner of Albany defeated Winn Taylor of Greenville, 3 and 1; and Nickolaus Budd of Woodstock topped Michael McKee of Ware Shoals, 3 and 2. South Carolina would then earn two points from the next pair of matches: RJ Keur of North Charleston defeated Carter Mobley of Waynesboro, 6 and 5; and Justin Hood of St. Matthews beat Will Duma of Atlanta, 4 and 2. Match six went Georgia's way with Tyler Hanson of Albany taking the point from Alex Handy of Aiken. The point then went the Palmetto State's way in match seven with Josh Fickes of Beaufort topping Tye Waller of Griffin, 7 and 6. The final match resulted in the Georgia Junior champion Marcus Byrd of Dunwoody defeating Jamie Wilson of Mount Pleasant, 4 and 3, to clinch the match.


Four players from Team Georgia each went 2-0 over the competition – Fendt, Joiner, Hanson and Byrd.


Georgia adds to its series lead, now at 23-13-2. This marks the Peach State's second-straight win when the event is held in the Palmetto State.


This was the 38th playing of the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match, which brings together the top junior golfers in the two neighboring states. Teams are composed of the top eight finishers from each state's Junior Championship. Each of the eight matches each day are worth one point, with the two-day total determining the winning team.
