Notes:
Gregor Main of Danville, Calif., (71-65) and Michael Johnson of Birmingham, Ala., (66-70) finished as co-medalists with 36-hole scores of 136, and automatically qualify for the U.S. Amateur Championship. Main played his collegiate golf at UCLA and plans to become a professional golfer later this year, while Johnson will play golf at Auburn University next season. The qualifier this week was held at Capital City Club-Crabapple in Woodstock, Ga., with the top five players automatically advancing.

Joining Main and Johnson in the top five who automatically qualify are Seth Reeves of Duluth, Ga., McLain Leberte of Huntsville, Ala., and Scott Davenport of Marietta, Ga. Reeves (66-71), Leberte (66-71), Davenport (68-69) and Ben Greene of Duluth, Ga., (66-71) each finished tied with 137 scores, so a playoff was needed to determine the third, fourth and fifth automatic qualifying spots as well as the first alternate position. A second playoff was needed between Sam Straka of Valdosta, Ga., and Austin Vick of Evans, Ga., to determine the second alternate position. Straka (72-66) and Vick (67-71) tied at 138 overall.

In the playoff between Reeves, Leberte, Davenport and Greene, Reeves and Leberte turned in par on 17 (first playoff hole) to clinch the third and fourth automatic qualifying spots. On to 18 (second playoff hole), Davenport turned in par, while Greene bogeyed, to claim the fifth automatic qualifying spot for the U.S. Amateur Championship.

Greene joins Straka, who won his playoff over Vick, as the first and second alternates, respectively.

During Wednesday's final round at Capital City Club-Crabapple, severe weather moved into the area and forced play to be suspended at 1:38 p.m. Exactly two hours later at 3:38 p.m., the remaining players went back out on the course and resumed their round.

Capital City Club-Crabapple was set to 7,076 yards and a par of 70. A field of 120 players competed in the qualifier, with 56 players advancing (low 36 and ties and those within eight strokes of the leader) to the final round after the 18-hole cut. This was the first of two U.S. Amateur qualifiers in Georgia. The second will be August 1-2 at The Standard Club in Duluth.

Qualifiers advance to the 111th annual U.S. Amateur Championship will be held at Erin Hills Golf Course in Erin, Wis., August 22-28, 2011. Entries were open to any amateur golfer with a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 2.4. The U.S. Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA.
