Notes:
Bill Jones III of Covington, Ga., carded a final-round, 5-under-par 66 to overtake first-round co-leaders Carter Newman of Evans, Ga., and Glenn Northcutt of Dothan, Ala., to earn medalist honors with a 7-under 135.


There was a four-man playoff among those tied at 141 – Drew Ernst of Seneca, S.C., birdied the first playoff hole to earn the first alternate spot. Richie Taylor of Snellville earned the second alternate position after a coin flip among the remaining three competitors.


Piedmont Club was set to 7,028 yards and a par of 71. A field of 144 players competed in the qualifying round, with 59 advancing (low 44 and ties) to the final round after the 18-hole cut.


Piedmont Driving Club hosted the first of two U.S. Amateur qualifiers in Georgia. The second takes place August 9-10 at Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega.


Qualifiers advance to the 110th annual U.S. Amateur Championship will be held at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash., August 23-29 with a starting field of 312 players. Entries were open to amateur golfers who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 2.4. The U.S. Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
