Notes:
Daniel Bowden of Easley, S.C., who played collegiate golf at Georgia Tech before transferring to Furman University, earned medalist honors with a 10-under-par 131 (67-64). He finished three strokes ahead of University of Georgia golfer Harris English of Athens and mid-amateur Michael Morrison of Roswell, Ga. First-round leader Franco Castro of Alpharetta, Ga., an incoming freshman at LSU, grabbed one of the two final qualifying spots, tying at 135 with Georgia College & State University golfer Taylor Smith of Mansfield, Ga.


High school senior Anders Albertson of Woodstock, Ga., and Augusta State golfer Henrik Norlander tied for the alternate positions at 136. Albertson won the playoff for first alternate.


Achasta Golf Club was set to 6,861 yards and played to a par 71 for the first round and a par 70 for the second round (the 450-yard par-5 fourth hole became a par-4). A field of 110 players competed in the qualifying round, with 41 advancing (low 33 and ties) to the final round after the 18-hole cut.


Achasta Golf Club hosted the second of two U.S. Amateur qualifiers in Georgia. The first took place July 27-28 at Piedmont Driving Club in Dahlonega.


Qualifiers advance to the 110th annual U.S. Amateur Championship will be held at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash., August 23-29 with a starting field of 312 players. Entries were open to amateur golfers who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 2.4. The U.S. Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
