Brent Witcher of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Jack Hall of Sea Island, Ga., tied for medalist honors at 7-under-par 137. Witcher carded 67-70, while Hall was the only player in the field with consecutive rounds in the 60s, shooting 69-68.
Wesley Bryan of Chapin, S.C., who shot a course-record 63 in the opening round, came back with a 77 but qualified at 4-under 140, along with his brother, George IV, who carded 69-71. James Bowen of Dawsonville, Ga., also qualified at 140 (68-72).
Georgia Tech golfer Taylor Hall of LaGrange, Ga., nabbed the final qualifying spot at 3-under-par 141 (71-70).
There was a three-man playoff between Lion An of Cumming, Ga., Hudson Keener of Dalton, Ga., and 2007 Georgia Amateur champion Harris English of Thomasville, Ga., for the first and second alternate positions. An scored birdie on the first playoff hole (No. 18) to take first alternate, while Keener claimed the second alternate position with par on the same hole.
Qualifiers advance to the 108th annual U.S. Amateur Championship, which takes place at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in Village of Pinehurst, N.C., August 18-24. Entries were open to amateur golfers who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 2.4. The U.S. Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
