Notes:
A playoff was held among Harold Wyatt of Atlanta and Joe Shirley of Marietta for the first alternate position. Wyatt won the first alternate position on the first playoff hole by recording a par.


Capital City Club-Crabapple was set to play to 7,094 yards at a par 72. The field of 144 played 18 holes on Tuesday, with the top 44 and ties advancing to Wednesday's final round. The cut fell at three-over 75.


This qualifier was one of approximately 85 that took place across the country and was the first U.S. Amateur qualifying event held in Georgia. The second qualifier will be held at White Columns Country Club in Alpharetta, August 1-2.


Qualifiers advance to the U.S. Amateur Championship which will be held at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa., August 22-28. The U.S. Amateur begins with two rounds of stroke play. After 36 holes, the field is cut to the low 64 scorers, who will advance to match play. Entries were open to amateurs who have USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 2.4. The U.S. Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
