Notes:
A playoff was held among the four golfers tied at 139 to determine the final three qualifying spots. Chris Epperson of Savannah, Ga. earned the first of those three spots with a birdie on the first playoff hole. Brandon Bennett of Douglasville, Ga. and Jonathan Fricke of Covington, Ga. each had par on the third playoff hole while Danny Nelson of Savannah, Ga. bogeyed to fall into the first alternate position.


David Denham of Tifton, Ga., the 2004 Georgia Amateur Champion, shared medalist honors with his current University of Georgia teammate, Kevin Kisner of Aiken, S.C., as both carded a nine-under 133 for 36 holes. Another reigning state title-holder, Junior Champion Michael Green of Augusta, earned the third alternate spot.


The Oconee Course at Reynolds Plantation played to approximately 7,134 yards and was a par-72. The field of 144 played 18 holes on Monday, with the top 44 and ties (53 players total) advancing to Tuesday's final round. The cut fell at two-over 74.


This qualifier was one of approximately 85 that took place across the country and was the second U.S. Amateur qualifying event held in Georgia. The first was held at Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta, July 27-28. Securing spots in the championship at the first qualifier were Harold Wyatt of Atlanta, Bob Royak of Alpharetta, Roberto Castro of Alpharetta, Mart Strickland of Woodstock and Tevis Upton of Douglasville.


Qualifiers advance to the U.S. Amateur Championship which will be held at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaronek, N.Y., August 16-22. The U.S. Amateur begins with two rounds of stroke play. After 36 holes, the field is cut to the low 64 scorers, who will advance to match play. Entries were open to amateurs who have USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 2.4. The U.S. Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
