Horseshoe Bend Country Club in Roswell, Ga. (6,317 yards, par 72), hosted an 18-hole qualifier to determine six spots into the 2009 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.
Horseshoe Bend is one of 18 sectional qualifying sites which are taking place July 4-21. Georgians Anna Leigh Keith of Moultrie and Dori Carter of Valdosta shared medalist honors at 2-under-par 70. Emilie Burger of Hoschton, Ga., and Sara Grantham of Wilsonville, Ala., finished one stroke back at 71. Also qualifying were Jaclyn Sweeney of Andover, Mass. (73) and Kayla Stewart of Cookeville, Tenn. (74).
There were seven players tied at 75 to determine the two alternate positions. Mariah Stackhouse of Riverdale, Ga., tallied a birdie on the second playoff hole to secure the first alternate spot, while Danielle Jackson of Seminole, Fla., scored par on the same hole to take second alternate.
The 109th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship will be held at Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis, Mo., August 3-9. Entries were open to female amateurs who have USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 5.4. The U.S. Women's Amateur Championship is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
