Durham Lakes Golf and Country Club in Fairburn, Ga., hosted a 36-hole qualifier to determine two spots into the 2008 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.

Wesley Bryan of Chapin, S.C., who will be a freshman on the University of South Carolina golf team this fall, earned medalist honors by shooting 4-under-par 140 (70-68). Lion An of Duluth, Ga., secured the second and final qualifying spot, finishing one stroke back at 3-under 141 (69-72).

Jordan Mitchell of Atlanta, Ga., turned in a pair of 71s to finish at 2-under 142 and hold the first alternate position. Two players – Dustin Furnari of Miami, Fla. and Michael Lawrence of Easley, S.C. – tied at 143, forcing a playoff to determine the second alternate. Lawrence won the spot with a par on the second playoff hole.

The five players were the only ones to shoot under par over 36 holes. Durham Lakes Golf and Country Club played to 7,070 yards and a par 72.

The 83rd annual U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship will be held at Murphy Creek Golf Course in Aurora, Colo., July 14-19. Entries were open to amateur golfers who, since Jan. 1, 2008, have been bona fide public course players and have not held privileges of any course that does not extend playing privileges to the general public, or privileges of any private club maintaining its own course and hold a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 4.4. The U.S. Amateur Public Links is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
