A total of 87 golfers competed at Orchard Hills Golf Club for two qualifying spots. It was one of 72 sectional qualifiers taking place across the country to determine the 144-player field.

Orchard Hills was set to play to 7,012 yards at a par 72.

The 2005 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship will be held at Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio, July 11-16. Entries were open to amateur golfers, who, since Jan. 1, 2005, have been bona fide public course players and have a USGA Handicap not exceeding 8.4. The U.S. Amateur Public Links is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
