Notes:

Sam Straka of Valdosta, Ga., shot the low round of the day, a 6-under-par 66, in the second round to finish at 5-under-par 139 and earn medalist honors. His 66 included seven birdies and an eagle with three bogeys.


Also qualifying for the U.S. Junior Championship were Austin Vick of Evans, Ga., (143), Oliver Schniederjans of Powder Springs, Ga. (144), Bobby Wyatt of Mobile, Ala. (144), and Kevin Lee of Dacula, Ga., (146).


The field was cut to the low 30 percent and ties after the first round, with the cutline falling at seven-over-par 79 and 29 players advancing. Pinetree Country Club, one of 63 qualifying sites nationwide, played to 7,108 yards and a par 72.


The 63rd annual U.S. Junior Amateur Championship will be held at Egypt Valley Country Club in Ada, Mich., July 19-24, 2010. Entries were open to amateur golfers who will not have reached their 18th birthday on or before July 24, 2010, and who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 6.4. The U.S. Junior Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
