Notes

Three amateur golfers tied for medalist honors and picked up the three qualifying spots at 2-under-par 70. David Maddox of McDonough, Ga., Tony Green of Kingsport, Tenn., and Douglas Hanzel of Savannah, Ga., all earned their spot into the U.S. Senior Open Championship.

 

There were seven players tied at 71 who competed in a playoff for the two alternate spots. Just as a playoff was about to get underway at 6:15 p.m., play was suspended when the weather siren sounded for lightning in the area. Play resumed at 6:55 p.m. Professionals Brad Britton of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Mark Jordan of Swainsboro, Ga., advanced to the second playoff hole after both posted birdies on the first hole to eliminate the other five players. Jordan won the first alternate spor with a birdie on the third playoff hole.


Also tying at 71 were Gary Odom of Greenwood, S.C., Edward Lacy of Marietta, Ga., and amateurs Mark Nickerson of Roswell, Ga., Jack Hall of Sea Island, Ga. and Mark Mulhall of Marietta, Ga.


St. Ives Country Club played to 6,897 yards and a par 72.


The 32nd annual U.S. Senior Open Championship will be held at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, July 28-31, 2011. Entries were open to any professional, or any amateur with a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 3.4, who turns 50 on or before July 28. The U.S. Senior Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
