Three players, Tim Conley of Acworth, Ga., Lawreceville's Karl Simon and Billy Sitton of Houston, Texas competed in a playoff for the two alternate positions. Conley, however, fell from the group after a bogey on the second playoff hole. On the third playoff hole, both players landed their tee shots in the fairway. Simon, on his second shot, hit the ball into the hazard and Sitton played s safe lay-up shot, leaving him approximately 100 yards to the green of the par-5 18th hole. Simon, forced to take a penalty stroke and drop, proceeded to hole his 125-yard approach shot for birdie and took the first alternate position.

TPC Sugarloaf (7,026 yards, par 72) served as host for one of 42 sectional qualifying sites nationwide taking place from June 22-July 7.
