The four players that shot 71 competed in a playoff for the last qualifying spot and the order of the first three alternate positions. Atlanta's Danny Yates fired a birdie on the second playoff hole to secure the third and final qualifying spot.
A total of 112 golfers competed at Lanier Golf Club for three qualifying spots. It was one of 42 sectional qualifiers taking place across the country to determine the 156-player field.
Lanier Golf Club was set to play to 6,771 yards at a par 72.
The 2005 U.S. Senior Open Championship will be held at NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio, July 28-31. Entries were open to any professional, or amateur with a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 3.4, who turns 50 on or before July 28. The U.S. Senior Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
