There was a four-woman playoff between Kristen Samp of Lawrence, Kansas, Joan Delk of Alpharetta, Sydney Burlison of Salinas, California and Patricia Baxter-Johnson of Lake Worth, Florida to determine the final spot and the order of the top three alternate spots. On the first playoff hole, Delk recorded a birdie to capture the final qualifying spot and Samp bogeyed the hole to finish as the third alternate. Burlison and Baxter-Johnson each parred the par-4 tenth hole, but Baxter-Johnson would card a birdie on the second playoff hole to secure the first alternate position.
There was also a playoff for the fourth alternate position played between Brandi Jackson of Greer, South Carolina, Sarah Lynn Johnston of Williamston, South Carolina, Alina Lee of Evans, Cindy Rarick of Tucson, Arizona and Allie Blomquist of Jupiter, Florida. Jackson won the spot with a birdie at the par-5 first hole.
The course was set to 6,325 yards, with a USGA Course and Slope Rating of 77.5/139.Qualifiers advance to the Sectional Qualifying Round, which consists of 36 holes of stroke play at one of nine locations around the country, being played June 13-14. The 2005 U.S. Women's Open Championship will be held at Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo., June 23-26. Entries were open to any female professional and to amateurs with current USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 4.4.
