Notes:
here was a four-woman playoff among those at 76 for the final three spots. Leigh Ann Mills of Tampa, Fla. was not present and automatically became the second alternate. Three of the five competitors at 77 played two sudden-death holes to determine the final two alternate spots and the order. Twelve-year-old Carmen Bandea of Snellville edged Auburn University's Celeste Troche with a birdie on the second hole. Jenny Throgmorton of Lexington, Ky. was eliminated on the first playoff hole.


The course was set to 6,225 yards, with a USGA Course and Slope Rating of 76.4/137.Qualifiers advance to the Sectional Qualifying Round, which consists of 36 holes of stroke play at one of eight locations around the country. The 2003 U.S. Women's Open Championship will be held at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club's Witch Hollow Course in North Plains, Ore., July 3-6. Entries were open to any female professional and to female amateurs with USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 4.4.
