Notes:
Six players, Bill Evans of Columbus, Ga., Bob Young of Dunwoody, Ga., Frank Perry of Fayetteville, Ga., Gary Shimmin of Okatie, S.C., Larry Clark of Kingston, Ga. and Larry McGill of Chattanooga, Tenn., each posted an even-par round of 72 and played off for the final two qualifying spots and the order of the alternate positions.


The two qualifying positions were obtained on the first playoff hole where Shimmin and Clark each posted par. On the second playoff hole, Perry connected on his birdie putt to secure himself as th first alternate while Young made par to land as the second.


Cherokee Town and Country Club played to 6,702 yards and a par 72.


The 55th USGA Senior Amateur Championship will be held at The Beverly Country Club in Chicago, Ill., September 12-17. Entries were open to amateurs who have reached their 55th birthday on or before September 12, and who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 7.4. The USGA Senior Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
