Notes:
All qualifiers and alternates are from the state of Georgia. Three players tied for medalist honors at even-par 72: Wally Adams of Vidalia, Ken Benson of Alpharetta and Bill Leonard of Kennesaw. Benson is making a return trip to the USGA Senior Amateur after advancing to the round of 32 in match play last year.


Four players who carded 74 competed in a playoff for the final qualifying spot and two alternate positions. Macon's Joseph Brogdon became the eighth and final qualifier with a birdie on the first playoff hole. Atlanta's Danny Yates secured the first alternate position over Dennis McNamara Jr. of Alpharetta with a birdie on the fourth playoff hole. The fourth player, Lanny Bailey of Dalton, was eliminated with a bogey on the first playoff hole.


Barnsley Gardens (6,862 yards, par 72) served as host for one of 53 sectional qualifying sites nationwide taking place through September 5.


The 52nd USGA Senior Amateur Championship will be held at Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Ind., September 16-21. Entries were open to amateurs who have reached their 55th birthday on or before September 16, and who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 7.4. The USGA Senior Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
