Lea Venable of Simpsonville, S.C., and Michelle Griffith of LaGrange, Ga., earned co-medalist honors by shooting 74 at Rivermont Golf and Country Club. Griffith, daughter of two-time U.S. Senior Open champion Allen Doyle, qualified for the second-straight year out of Rivermont. Also qualifying were Karen Williams of Bean Station, Tenn, with a 79 and reigning GSGA Senior Women's Player of the Year Brenda Pictor of Marietta, Ga., with an 80.
Rivermont Golf and Country Club played to 6,125 yards and a par of 72.
Qualifiers advance to the 23rd U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship, which will be held at Golden Hills Golf and Turf Club in Ocala, Fla., October 3-8, 2009. Entries were open to female amateur golfers who have reached their 25th birthday by October 3, and who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 9.4. The U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
