Notes:
Four professionals, Blake Adams of Eatonton, Ga., John Kimbell of Lafayette, Ga., Chris Nallen of Tucson, Ariz. and Paul Claxton of St. Simons Island, Ga., each qualified for sectional qualifying with Adams posting 2-under-par 68 to take medalist honors.


The final four qualifying positions were obtained via a playoff at one-over 71. Amateur golfer Greg Kennedy of Duluth, Ga. posted a birdie on the first playoff hole to secure a spot. Cameron Tringale of Laguna Niguel, Calif., a member of the men's golf team at Georgia Tech, David Robinson of Sandersville, Ga. and Jordan Mitchell of Atlanta, Ga. each made par to capture the remaining spots. David Dragoo of Carefree, Ariz. captured the first alternate position with a bogey. Troy Merritt of Boise, Idaho was named the second alternate after a coin flip. Merritt and Garry Lindsey of Wales did not show up for the playoff.


The River Club played to 7,079 yards and a par 70.


The first local qualifier in Georgia was held at Marietta Country Club in Kennesaw on Monday, May 11. Sectional qualifying will consist of 36 holes of stoke play to be conducted at two international sites on May 25 and 13 locations around the country on June 8, including Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground.


The 109th U.S. Open Championship will be held at Bethpage State Park's Black Course in Farmingdale, N.Y., June 18-21. Entries were open to any professional and to amateurs with USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 1.4. The USGA received a record number of entries – 9,086 – for this year's Championship, surpassing the previous record of 9,048 entries for the 2005 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina. The U.S. Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
