Notes:
Professional Brooks Blackburn of Augusta, Ga,, earned co-medalist honors at 4-under-par 67 with Cameron Tringale of San Juan Capistrano, Calif. Tringale is a member of the Georgia Tech men's golf team. They both advance to sectional qualifying with amateur Taylor Hall of Lagrange, Ga., also a member of the Georgia Tech golf squad, Brian Smock of San Diego, Calif. and Wade Binfield of Fayetteville, Ga.


Three players, Andrew Suggs of Fayetteville, Ga., Michael Bugden of Newnan, Ga. and David Robinson of Sandersville, Ga. posted rounds of 69 and stayed for the playoff for the two alternate positions. Suggs made par on the first playoff hole to secure the first alternate position, while Bugden and Robinson bogeyed. On the second playoff hole, Robinson lipped a short three-foot par putt allowing Bugden to take home the second alternate spot.


The first local qualifier was held at Marietta Country Club in Kennesaw on Monday, May 12. Sectional qualifying will consist of 36 holes of stoke play to be conducted at 14 locations around the country May 28 and June 2. Ansley Golf Club-Settindown Creek in Roswell will host a sectional qualifier on June 2.


The 108th U.S. Open Championship will be held at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, Calif., June 12-15. Entries were open to any professional and to amateurs with USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 1.4. The U.S. Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
