Notes:
Professionals Brooks Blackburn of Augusta, Ga. and Bob May of Las Vegas, Nev., were co-medalists at 3-under-par 67. Both players carded four birdies with just one bogey.
Andrew Georgiou of South Africa, a member of the Columbus State golf team, and amateur Bob Royak of Alpharetta, Ga., both shot 68 to tie for third.


There was a seven-man playoff among those who scored 69 for the final four qualifying positions and two alternate spots, including Jonathan Cox of Marietta, Ga., Adam Fox of Stuart, Fla., Jimmy Green of Auburn, Ala., Justin Hicks of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., Geoffrey Kelowitz of Palm Harbor, Fla., Ryan Snyder of Cordele, Ga. and amateur Jarod Trammell of Jasper, Ga. On the first playoff hole, Green and Snyder recorded bogey, while the rest scored par 4. Green and Snyder then went on to play three more holes before Green scored par on the fourth playoff hole (No. 11) to earn the second alternate spot.


The remaining five golfers played a total of three holes before Cox carded bogey on the third hole (No. 1) to fall into the first alternate position. The other four – Fox, Hicks, Kelowitz and Trammell – took the fifth through eighth qualifying positions.


A total of 15 players shot par or better on the par-70, 6,768-yard layout.


A second local qualifier in Georgia will be held at Flat Creek Club in Peachtree City on Monday, May 21. Local qualifiers advance to 36-hole sectional qualifying, which takes place at 14 locations across the country May 28 and June 4. Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground will host a qualifier on Tuesday, June 4, the only sectional taking place in Georgia.


The 107th U.S. Open Championship will be held at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa.., June 14-17. Entries were open to any professional and to amateurs with USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 1.4. The U.S. Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
