Notes:
A total of 138 players entered the local qualifier at Planterra Ridge, playing for nine qualifying spots and four alternate positions. Planterra Ridge played to 6,890 yards and a par of 72. Its rating is 73.1 and slope is 130.


Amateur Jay Moseley of Bainbridge and Chad Wilfong of Thomasville, North Carolina tied for medalist honors, both carding a six-under 66. Moseley tallied seven birdied on the day and one bogey to finish the round. Wilfong played a bogey-free round and birdied three of the four par-fives.


The seven players tied at 69 competed in a playoff to determine the final four qualifying spots and the order for the first three alternate positions. Statesboro's Aron Price recorded an eagle on the first playoff hole and Dave Schreyer of Pechtree City, Matt Peterson of Watkinsville, and Scott Parel of Augusta each carded a birdie to capture the remaining qualifying spots.


The first two alternate positions were decided on the third playoff hole, after Atlanta's Vernon Kirton and Marietta's exchanged pars on the first two holes. On the third, Stefan failed to get up-and-down for par and would settle for the second alternate postion. Kirton's third consecutive par would land him the position of first alternate.


Local qualifiers advance to Sectional Qualifying, which will consist of 36 holes of stroke play. GSGA will conduct a Sectional Qualifying round on June 6 at East Lake Golf Club in Roswell, with the qualifying players advancing to the U.S. Open Championship at Pinehurst Resort in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C., June 16-19.


Entries were open to any professional and to amateurs with USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 1.4. The U.S. Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
