GA-SC Junior Challenge Match Ends In A Tie, 8-8

 

ROSWELL, Ga. - For the third consecutive time the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match has been contested in the Peach State, the match ends in a tie, 8-8. The 39th annual competition took place at Ansley Golf Club-Settindown Creek, July 25-26.


On day two, Georgia won five matches. Match one went South Carolina's way though, as Zach Bishop of Travelers Rest beat Georgia's Connor Coffee of Peachtree City, 5 and 4. The next two matches to finish resulted in points for the Peach State - Mark David Johnson, Jr., of St. Simons Island, Ga., defeated Christian Baliker of Simpsonville, S.C., 6 and 5, and Jake Fendt of Suwanee, Ga., topped Jordan Warnock of Roebuck, S.C., 6 and 5. South Carolina's Jamie Wilson then earned a point over Georgia's Hunter Dunagan of Martinez, 3 and 2. Jonathan Keppler of Marietta notched a point for the home team with his win over Connor Bruns of Duncan, S.C., 3 and 2. Tye Waller of Griffin picked up Georgia's fourth point on the day by topping South Carolina's Christian Salzer of Sumter, 5 and 3. Georgia took the lead for the first time with Spencer Ralston of Gainesville's win over Trace Crowe of Bluffton, S.C., 2 and 1.


The final match of the day was a battle between the Georgia Junior champion, Charles Huntzinger of Duluth, and South Carolina's Junior champion, Jack Parrott of Columbia. Huntzinger fell short, dropping the match to Parrott, 3 and 1, resulting in the overall match ending in a tie, 8-8.


Three players from Team Georgia each went 2-0 over the competition - Keppler, Ralston and Waller.


With the tie, the all-time series record goes to 23-13-3. This marks the third consecutive match to end in a tie when Georgia is hosting the competition.
