At an 18-hole qualifier at Rivermont Country Club, Brenda Pictor of Marietta was the only Georgian to qualify for the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship. Pictor, a seven-time defending GSGA Senior Women's Player of the Year, was the medalist with a score of even-par 72. She will be joined at the Championship by Lea Venable of Simpsonville, S.C., who picked up the second and final qualifying spot with a 2-over-par 74.
Mercedes Huarte of Argentina finished as first alternate at 4-over-par 76 and Deb Jackson of Johns Creek, Ga., earned the second alternate spot at 5-over-par 77.
Rivermont Country Club was set to 6,050 yards and a par of 72. A field of seven players competed in the qualifying round.
Qualifiers advance to the 29th U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship, which will be held at Harbour Trees Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind., September 6-11. Entries were open to female amateur golfers who have reached their 25th birthday by September 6, and who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 9.4. The U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
