Notes:
Seven Georgians qualify for the USGA Senior Amateur Championship, including medalist Alan Thielemann of Woodstock, who posted a 4-under-par 68 at Cherokee Town and Country Club in Atlanta. Joining him in the national championship will be Chris Hall of Mableton (69), Don Russell of Atlanta (69), Don Marsh of Johns Creek (70), Mark Nickerson of Roswell (71), Donny Phillips of Suwanee (71) and Jack Hall of Savannah (71).

Three Georgians finished the 18-hole qualifier at even-par 72 - Rocky Costa of Alpharetta, James Kiely of Milton and Richard Grote of Kennesaw - so a playoff was needed to determine first and second alternate. With a birdie on the third playoff hole, Grote secured the first alternate position. Kiely finished as second alternate.

Due to severe weather in the area, the horns blew and caused a pair of suspensions - once from 5:08 to 5:19 and again from 5:55 to 6:58 p.m.

Cherokee Town and Country Club was set to 6,772 yards and a par of 72 for the qualifier.

Qualifiers advance to the 60th annual USGA Senior Amateur Championship, which will be held at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach, Calif., September 13-18. Entries were open to any amateur golfer with a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 2.4. The U.S. Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA.
