West Wins Junior Sectional Challenge Match 

 

SAVANNAH, Ga. --- The West section wins the 2014 Junior Sectional Challenge Match with a total of 45 2/3 points. The Southeast section finished with runner-up honors with 38 2/3 points. The 41st annual competition took place at The Landings Club-Marshwood/Magnolia, July 27-28.


The 18-hole division was played on Marshwood's track. Austin Daniel of the Southeast section won the 16-18 boys division at 3-under-par 141 (71-70). Gage Smith of the Northwest section earned the top spot in the 12-13 boys division at 2-over-par 146 (73-73). Isabel Rijos of the West section won the 14-18 girls division at 12-over-par 156 (78-78).


In the 14-15 boys division, Will Kahlstorf of the Northeast section and Ben Womack of the West section tied at 5-over-par 149, so a playoff was needed to determine division winner. After six extra holes, Kahlstorf sunk a 35-footer for par on the 18th hole to claim his age group's title.

 

In the 9-hole division played on the Magnolia course's front side, Marcus Reynolds of the Middle section won the 11-and-under boys group at 2-over-par 74 (35-39). Audrey Davis of the West section earned the top spot in the 11-and-under girls group at 20-over-par 92 (47-45). In the 12-13 girls group, Ayanna Habeel of the Northeast section won at 5-over-par 77 (34-43).

 

This marks the first time the West section has won the Junior Sectional Challenge Match.
