Don Marsh Wins Georgia Super Senior Championship
Becomes two-time champ at annual competition

MARIETTA, Ga. – Don Marsh of Johns Creek won his second Georgia Super Senior Championship with a final 36-hole score of 5-over-par 149 (73-76). Marsh finished five strokes better than three who share runner-up honors at 10-over-par 154, including Jim Kamis of Marietta (76-78), Bill Ploeger of Columbus (76-78) and Edward Krueger of Suwanee (74-80). The eighth annual event took place at Indian Hills Country Club, March 30-31.

Marsh began the final round with a one-stroke advantage after opening the Georgia Super Senior Championship with a 1-over-par 73 on Monday. After severe weather forced round one into a one-hour delay, Marsh posted a birdie on two and a bogey on four. Making the turn even-par, he then recorded a double-bogey on 14, back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17, and a bogey on 18 to post his 73. On Tuesday, Marsh made birdie on three, doubled the fourth and made bogey on six. On the backside, he made bogeys on 12, 14 and 15. Heading to 18 not knowing the status of the leaderboard, he birdied his final hole for good measure.

With the victory, Marsh becomes a two-time winner of this annual event. Spencer Sappington of Milton is the only other player to record multiple wins at the Georgia Super Senior Championship, as he has three titles in his name (2008, 2010, 2011). Marsh earned his first in 2013 at Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta.

Dick Donegan of Kennesaw (78-78), Gary Woodell of Douglasville (78-78) and Bill Evans of Columbus (76-80) tied for fifth overall at 12-over-par 156. Sappington (77-81) and Earl Johnson of Lawrenceville (77-81) tied for eighth overall at 14-over-par 158. Rounding out the overall top 10, two players tied for 10th at 15-over-par 159, including Arch Arnold of Columbus (79-80) and Tom Toombs of Perry (76-83).

In a flight-by-flight breakdown, Marsh won the Championship flight and Krueger the first flight. Johnson topped flight two. In flight three, Randall Rozier of McDonough earned flight honors at 17-over-par 161 (84-77). Tom Temple of Atlanta won flight four at 30-over-par 174 (86-88). In flight five, Don Gardner of Kennesaw claimed flight honors at 35-over-par 179 (89-90). Joseph Burke of Dunwoody topped the sixth flight at 34-over-par 178 (93-85). Rounding out the flights, Robert Lake of Acworth won the seventh at 46-over-par 190 (95-95).

A pair of Georgia Golf Hall of Famers earned top 10 finishes at the Georgia Super Senior Championship. Ploeger (inducted in 2001) shared runner-up honors and Sappington (inducted in 2008) tied for eighth.

The shot of the tournament goes to Michael Smith of Cumming who recorded a hole-in-one on the 160-yard par 3 12th hole during Monday's opening round.

Entries were open to male amateur golfers age 65 or older as of March 30, 2015. The low 36 players were chosen by handicap index and comprise the Championship flight. The remaining players were chosen by lottery and grouped into flights based on handicap index.

Indian Hills Country Club played to 6,066 yards and a par 72 for the Georgia Super Senior Championship.
