Laura Coble Wins Georgia Senior Women's Match Play Championship

Carrollton, Ga. --- Laura Coble of Augusta has won her first Georgia Senior Women's Match Play Championship. The fourth playing of this competition took place at Sunset Hills Country Club, May 4-6.
In the Championship division, Coble defeated Deb Jackson of Johns Creek, 2 and 1, in her semifinal match on Tuesday to advance to the final. In the other semifinal match, Brenda Pictor of Marietta, who had been the only winner this event has had, topped Mary Riley of Perry, 4 and 2. Pictor then forfeited her final match, making Coble the champion.
Three flights made up the Senior division. Jill Rhodes of Sandy Springs won flight one as her opponent, Gwen Young of Cochran, withdrew. In flight two, Fran Coody of Perry defeated Alicia Bartlett of Villa Rica, 1 up, to claim flight honors. Meri Parian of Carrollton beat Jo Ann Nelson of Kathleen, 6 and 4, to win flight three.
In the Super Senior division, Barbara Brown of Carrollton outlasted Rochelle Weaver of Resaca, 4 and 2, to top flight one. And in the division's second flight, Joyce Doss of Carrollton beat Anne Vazsonyi of Albany, 3 and 2.
Entries were open to female amateur golfers who are at least 50 years old as of the first day of competition for the Championship or Senior division or at least 65 years old for the Super Senior division. Match play seeding was determined by handicap index.
