Notes:
Former Georgia Tech golfer James White of Acworth, Ga., earned medalist honors after posting a 6-under-par 66 at an 18-hole local qualifier for the U.S. Open. Two players at 5-under-par 67 join White on to the sectional stage, including Reid Edstrom of Auburn, Ala., and Jason Perry of Myrtle Beach, S.C. JT Griffin of St. Simons Island, Ga., Drew Czuchry of Alpharetta, Ga., and Michael Parrott of Woodstock, Ga., each turned in 4-under-par 68 scores to also advance.

Two players finished at 3-under-par 69, Franco Castro of Alpharetta, Ga., and Jarrod Barsamian of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., so a playoff was needed to determine the final qualifying spot and first alternate position. On the first playoff hole (18), Castro made par to clinch the final qualifying spot. Barsamian finished as first alternate and Jeffrey Cornelius of Ringgold, Ga., finished as second alternate.

The Golf Club of Georgia played to 6,986 yards and a par 72.

The first 18-hole local qualifier in Georgia took place May 11 at The Legends at Chateau Elan in Braselton. Sectional qualifying will consist of 36 holes of stroke play conducted at two international sites on May 25 (Japan and England) and 12 United States' sites on June 8, including Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground. Qualifiers from the two local site in Georgia may, but will not necessarily be, at that sectional qualifier.

The 115th U.S. Open Championship will be held at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash., June 15-21. Entries were open to any professional and to amateurs with USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 1.4. The U.S. Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
