Notes:
Matthew NeSmith, an amateur from North Augusta, S.C., fired a 17-under-par 127 (63-64) in a 36-hole sectional qualifier to earn medalist honors and a spot in the U.S. Open Championship. Joining NeSmith as automatic qualifiers are amateur Lee McCoy of Clarkesville, Ga., and professional Roberto Castro of Atlanta, Ga. McCoy, who plays at the University of Georgia, posted a 13-under-par 131 (65-66), while Castro finished at 12-under-par 132 (64-68).


The first alternate position went to professional Franco Castro of Alpharetta, Ga., the younger brother of Roberto. He finished at 11-under-par 133 (66-67). Professional Ryuji Imada of St. Simons Island, Ga., finished as second alternate at 10-under-par 134 (68-66).


Hawks Ridge Golf Club played to 7,186 yards and a par 71.


The 115th U.S. Open Championship will be held at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash., June 18-21. Entries were open to any professional and to amateurs with USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 1.4. The U.S. Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
