Peach State Wins GA-SC Girls' Junior Challenge Match, 18-6 


SAVANNAH, Ga. - Team Georgia beats South Carolina and wins the GA-SC Girls' Junior Challenge Match, 18-6. The 11th annual competition took place at The Landings Club-Oakridge, August 6-7.


The Peach State swept its four matches on day two of the competition, earning 10.5 points on Sunday to win the event on home soil. In match one, Tiffany Kang of Suwanee earned all three points for Georgia with her win over Anna Grace Brock of Greenwood, S.C., 3 and 1. Louise Yu of Duluth took two points in her match victory over Jodee Tindal of Rock Hill, S.C. Yu won the match, 1 up, and also earned a point by winning the back nine.


Elisa Yang of Norcross also notched all three points for the home team as she defeated Gracyn Burgess of Lexington, S.C., 4 and 3. The final match of the day resulted in 2.5 points for Georgia as the reigning two-time Georgia Girls' Champion, Lauren Lightfritz of Suwanee, beat Baylee Evans of Lancaster, S.C., 4 and 2. Lightfritz earned a point on the front nine, a half-point on the back nine and a point for winning the match.


Georgia won two matches on day one. Yu defeated Brock, 5 and 3, and Yang beat Evans, 6 and 4. The other two matches in round one went South Carolina's way. Kang fell to Tindal, 1 up, and Lightfritz dropped her match to Burgess, 1 up.


Scored in Nassau format, one point was awarded to the winner of each nine and one point awarded for the overall match.
