Notes:
A trio of players posted rounds of 66 to share medalist honors at an 18-hole local qualifier for the U.S. Open at Planterra Ridge Golf Club in Peachtree City, Ga. Kennesaw State University player Chris Guglielmo of Cumming, professional Mitchell Krywulycz of Australia and Georgia Tech player Jacob Joiner of Albany tied at the top of the leaderboard.
Others who earned qualifying spots to advance to Sectionals include Luke Schniederjans of Alpharetta (67), Bryson Nimmer of Bluffton, S.C. (67), Benjamin Shipp of Duluth (68), and Ryan Stachler of Alpharetta (68). Eleven players crowded the leaderboard at 3-under-par 69, so a playoff was needed to determine the two alternate positions. Those players include Keenan Huskey of Greenville, S.C., Vincent Whaley of Fayetteville, professional Davin White of Locust Grove, Yannick Gumowski of Germany, Barrett Waters of Dallas, Jonathan Keppler of Marietta, Forrest Knight of Jemison, Ala., Harrison Stewart of Roswell, Spencer Ralston of Gainesville, professional Jacob Tilton of Evans and Neil Gannaway of Birmingham, Ala.
Whaley made a birdie on the first playoff hole (18) to finish as first alternate. On the second playoff hole (10), Huskey made his birdie putt for the second alternate position.
Planterra Ridge Golf Club played to 6,818 yards and a par 72.
A second 18-hole local qualifier in Georgia will take place on Monday, May 16, at Jennings Mill Country Club in Watkinsville. Sectional qualifying will consist of 36 holes of stroke play conducted at two international sites (Japan and England) and 10 United States' sites on June 6, including Ansley Golf Club-Settindown Creek in Roswell. Qualifiers from Planterra Ridge Golf Club may, but will not necessarily be, at that sectional qualifier.
The 116th U.S. Open Championship will be held at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa., June 16-19. Entries were open to any professional and to amateurs with USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 1.4. The U.S. Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
